BlueCollar Fleet's Load Check is free forever: real truck road miles, your own cost per mile, and TAKE IT / NEGOTIATE / PASS on every offer.
How to estimate fuel for a trip
Gallons = miles ÷ MPG. Multiply by the diesel price you expect to pay. For reefers, add the gallons the unit burns per hour times the hours it runs.
Ways to cut fuel cost
- Slow down: a few mph can noticeably improve MPG.
- Use fuel discount cards and plan stops in lower-tax states.
- Keep tires properly inflated and limit idling.
Questions
What MPG do semi trucks get?
Many modern tractors average roughly 6 to 8 MPG loaded, but it varies with weight, speed, terrain, weather and the truck.
How do I find my real MPG?
Divide the miles driven by the gallons bought over a few fill-ups. An app that logs fuel receipts does this automatically.
Is fuel deductible?
Fuel for your business truck is generally a deductible business expense. Ask your tax preparer what applies to you.
